California Wines
In the early 70s, there were only about two dozen or so wineries that were making quality wine, Mondavi, Beringer, Martini, Inglenook, Paul Masson, Almaden, Buena Vista, Wente, Beaulieu, etc. WOW!!!, how things change! Back then, it was a lot simpler to understand and appreciate California wines and its culture then it is today.
Now the study of California wines is extremely complicated. There are so many wineries, owners, wine styles, mergers, acquisitions, defined viticultural areas, experimentation, laws, etc. Today the wines of California are considered to be some of the best in the world, Napa is now the second largest tourist attraction in California after Disney, and winemakers and vineyardists are coming from all over the world to study wine in California. Let Calmont’s professional wine team be your guide.
California wines are well known for their high quality, reliability and diversity. California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varietals grown in almost 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
California quality comes through in every bottle of wine, from the exclusive cult wines to the everyday wines available in supermarkets, and all ranges in between. There is no doubt that California can successfully compete with any wine region in the world at all price ranges.
